Chief Executive Officer
Sonia Cheng leads a team of seasoned industry professionals to spearhead the regional and international expansion of Rosewood Hotel Group. Ms. Cheng is also executive director of New World Development Company Limited and New World China Land which comprise one of the largest conglomerates in Hong Kong.
Before joining Rosewood Hotel Group, Ms. Cheng worked with a major international investment bank and a global American private equity firm, specialising in real estate investments. She is a chairman of the advisory committees of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a member of the advisory committee of the School of Hotel & Tourism Management Industry at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is a member of the Y. Elites Association, the Young Presidents’ Organisation, the Hong Kong United Youth Association and the Eleventh Guizhou Municipal Committee of The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Ms. Cheng holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Economics from Harvard University.
Group Chief Operating Officer
Symon Bridle joined Rosewood Hotels & Resorts in 2009 following 18 years with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts where he held senior corporate management positions in development and operations divisions, including a role as COO. He also held several general manager posts at leading Shangri-La hotels. Mr. Bridle previously worked with Southern Sun Hotels and Westin Hotels in South Africa and in luxury hotels in Switzerland and Bermuda. He began his hotel industry career in 1980.
Chief Development Officer
Karl Bieberach-Dielman leads the global development and feasibility team to strategically expand the footprint for the group’s three distinct brands. With more than 20 years experience in development, Mr. Bieberach-Dielman has worked extensively in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the U.S. Prior to joining Rosewood, he held a variety of senior roles during his 15-year tenure at Starwood Hotels & Resorts including vice president, head of European development; vice president of development based in Paris; vice president of feasibility and investment analysis for Europe, Africa and Middle East; and director of acquisitions and development in EAME. Prior to Starwood, he was director of development planning and feasibility in Latin America and the Caribbean at Marriott International. Mr. Bieberach-Dielman is a graduate of Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and speaks English, Spanish and French.
Senior Vice President – General Counsel and Group Head of Legal
Michael Dojlidko has nearly 20 years’ experience in corporate law, specializing in mergers and acquisitions for public and private companies, hotel agreements and real estate dispositions. His previous 12 years at Starwood Hotels & Resorts culminated in his role as senior vice president, general counsel – EAME (Europe, Africa, Middle East), where he oversaw all legal matters for the division.
Group Vice President – Information Technology
Rajagopal Gampa is responsible for managing an integrated IT team supporting Rosewood Hotel Group’s three distinct brands and leading the group’s global technology development and operations to support an aggressive expansion plan. A 19-year hotel technology veteran, Mr. Gampa has held a variety of roles spearheading and rolling out hotel systems during his career. Prior to joining Rosewood, Mr. Gampa was with Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts for 12 years. Mr. Gampa graduated with an undergraduate degree in engineering from Andhra University in India and completed his M.B.A. at the University of Hong Kong.
Group Vice President - Finance
Francis Ling has more than 25 years’ experience in accounting and financial management, with a focus in international luxury hotel groups. Mr. Ling’s most recent position was Vice President of Finance for Marco Polo Hotels Management Ltd. Previously, Mr. Ling held various executive positions at Hyatt Group, culminating as Director of Corporate Finance for Hyatt International - Asia Pacific, Ltd.
Group Vice President - Design and Project Services
As group vice president of design and project services, Trish Luyckx has over two decades’ experience in hotel operations and technical services, and product design, with previous projects under her supervision spanning the Americas, Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Prior to joining Rosewood Hotel Group, Ms. Luyckx held various positions with the Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Hyatt International for more than 19 years including vice president of product and brand design and vice president of operational planning.
Group Vice President Guest Experience and Wellness
Niamh O’Connell is group vice president of guest experience and wellness and leads the strategic global development of spa, wellness and recreation operations for the group’s existing hotels and new projects. A native of Ireland, Ms. O’Connell has more than 22 years’ spa industry experience with hotel groups and independent spa brands. Prior to joining Rosewood Hotel Group, Ms. O’Connell held various senior positions in Hyatt International Hotels & Resorts including vice president of spa. Previously she was vice president of operations in Asia Pacific for ESPA International.
Ooi Lay Peng
Group Vice President - Human Resources Development
Ooi Lay Peng has extensive experience creating human resource structures for new businesses. Prior to joining Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, she headed human resources operations for MGM Grand Paradise Limited in Macau. At Intel, Ms. Ooi was responsible for a division covering 20,000 employees in Costa Rica, Philippines, Malaysia and Shanghai and helped build One China HR that supported all Intel businesses in China. She also spent 10 years with Hyatt International, culminating as Director of Human Resources – North Asia.
Group Vice President - Food & Beverage
Ivan Suardi has more than 22 years’ experience in the food and beverage industry, conceptualising new restaurants and supporting the technical and culinary aspects of luxury hotel food and beverage projects. Before joining Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, Mr. Suardi was the Director of Food and Beverage projects in Asia Pacific for Hyatt International. He was with Hyatt Hotels for more than 16 years in Hong Kong, Taipei, Manila, Almaty, Jakarta and Dubai.
Thuy Tranthi Rieder
Chief Marketing Officer
Thuy Tranthi Rieder has over 20 years’ marketing, sales and general management experience leading global teams in consumer, luxury and hospitality brands. Prior to joining Rosewood Hotel Group, Ms. Tranthi Rieder was chief marketing and communications officer for a Geneva-based, privately held portfolio of luxury hospitality, sports and leisure properties. Previously, she held global marketing leadership roles and was an executive board member for the Lancel and Chloé brands of the Richemont Group. While at LVMH – Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, she held positions as president, Celine USA; president, Thomas Pink USA; and general manager of Louis Vuitton Hawaii. Earlier stages of her career were spent at Disney Consumer Products, Elizabeth Arden Company and in the financial industry.
Vice President - Brand Marketing and Communications
Robert Cheng has two decades of experience in strategy, marketing and business development across a variety of industries in the U.S., U.K., France, Hong Kong and mainland China. Prior to joining Rosewood, Cheng was group vice president of marketing for The Peninsula Hotels following a year as director of sales and marketing for The Peninsula Shanghai. Previously, he served as global marketing director for De Beers Diamond Jewellers, business development manager for the London-based developers, Candy & Candy, and director of international premium products for American Express managing Centurion and Platinum card portfolios. He started his career as a strategy consultant with the Monitor Group in New York City.
Vice President – Development, Middle East
Hicham Hassouni has more than 15 years experience in hotel development in key Middle East markets among which were eight years spent in Dubai in senior positions including vice president of development, Middle East & Africa at Fairmont Raffles Hotels International; senior director of development, Middle East at AccorHotels Group; and vice president of hotels, Middle East & Africa at Jones Lang LaSalle. Previously, he was senior manager and member of the executive committee at Colliers International in Morocco.
May Pendraat Kredner
Vice President - Sales and Marketing, Asia and Middle East
May Pendraat Kredner oversees strategic sales and marketing, with a focus on sales operations, revenue management, distribution, e-commerce and loyalty marketing. She also supports individual operating hotels and ensures the successful marketing of opening hotels. Mrs. Kredner has more than 25 years sales and marketing experience in the Asia Pacific hospitality industry. Most recently, she was vice president of sales and marketing at Marco Polo Hotels for two years following a three-year position as area director of marketing at Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel. Previously, Mrs. Kredner was with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts for more than 20 years.
Vice President - Engineering
Eddie Lam has more than 20 years experience in hotel engineering operation and technical services. He was previously Vice President of Technical Services, Asia Pacific for Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts. He has worked on many new-build hotel projects in Hong Kong, China and Southeast Asia as a technical services consultant and successfully completed more than 20 reputable hotel projects including Le Meridien Cyberport, Hong Kong and Le Royal Meridien Shanghai.
Vice President – Development, Asia Pacific
Noel Merainer leads the group’s expansion in the region for its four distinct brands. With 17 years hospitality industry experience, Mr. Merainer is experienced in the Asia Pacific, Middle East, Europe and North America hotel markets. Prior to joining Rosewood, he held various positions at Marriott International for eight years including vice president, development planning and feasibility for Asia Pacific. He was also regional director of revenue management at Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts following six years in operations with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. Mr. Merainer graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in hotel administration.
Head of Development – China, Business Development
Robby Qiu brings 12 years experience in hotel development, asset management, feasibility studies and legal services to Rosewood Hotel Group, with three years working for Trump Hotel Collection as chief country executive and vice president development and acquisition in mainland China. Previously, he was with AccorHotels Group for seven years with his last position held as senior director of development for Greater China.
